VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR CEC MEMBERS:

Student and Early Career Committee:
Applications to fill three positions on CEC’s Student and Early Career Committee are being accepted. Terms are for two years (July 1, 2019 – June 31, 2021).
Committee members must be either in the first five (5) years of their career in special education or a student member as defined by CEC.
Student Definition: A full-time student during the academic year as defined by an accredited college or university, or a part-time student who in not engaged in full-time employment as a certified professional in the field of education.
The purposes of the committee are to: (1) advise the Board of Directors on ways to recruit, mentor, and support individuals entering the profession, especially those from diverse backgrounds; (2) advise the Board of Directors on ways to enhance the experience of student and early-career CEC members and encourage their transition to a full-dues-paying membership; (3) determine from nominations received the recipients of the Student Awards; (4) plan and conduct a Student Forum and/or other events relevant to students and early-career teachers at each Annual Convention that provide(s) opportunities for student attendees to engage with CEC in order to improve their practice, network with peers, maximize the benefits of their CEC membership and the convention experience, and (5) solicit from the eligible student members applications for vacancies in the student representative positions to the Representative Assembly, and prepare a slate of candidates for election by the student membership.

Applications to fill two positions on CEC’s Representative Assembly (RA) Committee are being accepted. Terms are for two years (July 1, 2019 – June 31, 2021).
Committee members must be current state/provincial unit, division or student RA representatives or have previous experience as a unit, division or student representative.
The purposes of the committee are to: (1) advise the presiding officer of the RA (the CEC President) on procedures, effective formats and field-based issues for meetings and online discussions; (2) conduct (a) orientations for RA members; and (b) an evaluation of the meeting held during the annual convention; (3) carry out the functions of a resolutions committee as set forth in the Standing Rules for the RA; and (4) review and approve the minutes of the meeting held during the annual convention.
